A Funeral is a time for family and friends to come together and express grief at a loss, give thanks for a life and commend a person into God’s keeping after their life on earth has ended.
Every funeral is different and can be either small, quiet ceremonies or larger occasions in a full church.
Everyone is entitled to a funeral service or to have their ashes buried in their local parish churchyard regardless of whether they attended church or not.
It is usually best that you contact a Funeral Director before approaching the church as they are best placed to advise you on what you need to do. You may also find some useful information on the Church of England website: Planning a Funeral.
